Created by Laura Laubach, Saturn Bridal (the wedding-focused arm of Transplant Vintage) specializes in dressing people for their special day. Founded by the collectsive that created the fantastic roaming market A Current Affair, Arcade is a brick-and-mortar store with a rotating selection of the same vendors. The wares are pulled from across the country, so you’ll find Palm Springs acid-bright caftans next to ’40s avant-garde handbags. And if the biannual sale or shop isn’t accessible, the online shop is updated regularly too.

This appointment-only vintage salon, founded by Lily Kaizer, specializes in helping you find all the vintage ensembles you’re dreaming of for your big day. Whether you’re going sleek or diaphanous, you’ll find racks upon racks of vintage Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, and Christian Dior. And if shades of white aren’t quite your style (or you’re looking for something for a different event), Kaizer gets it: There’s also an incredible collectsion of bold and bright gowns and suits.

The Kit
Former fashion editor Robyn Goldberg fell in love with the craftsmanship of vintage clothing while working in New York City. For her second act, she decided to sell the crème de la craftsmanship, focusing on special-occasion dressing. Inside, there are vintage Christian Lacroix pieces not seen since they graced the runway, Ossie Clark and Mugler minidresses, and a large selection of bridal gowns.

A favorite of vintage lovers like Margot Robbie and Olivia Rodrigo (who wore an Azzedine Alaïa spring 1991 dress from the shop for her 21st birthday this year), this Beverly Hills store focuses on red-carpet-level dresses. Founder Rita Watnick, who worked at Van Cleef & Arpels and Valentino before opening Lily et Cie, presents dresses from designers like Jean-Louis Scherrer haute couture, Yves Saint Laurent, and Chanel haute couture as if they are on display in a museum—so window-shopping is equally as joyful as making a purchase.

The Paper Bag Princess
Elizabeth Mason, a.k.a. the Paper Bag Princess, has been tapped by Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian, and vintage patron saint Lana Del Rey for couture ensembles. Inside the black-and-white shop are racks of 20th- and 21st-century designer wares, best seen during a private appointment with the founder. Mason has also published two books on vintage and thrifting (The Rag Street Journal and Valuable Vintage) and was on an episode of Oprah titled “Are You Rich and You Don’t Know It?”

The Way We Wore
Doris Raymond first opened The Way We Wore in San Francisco in 1981. From there, she did clothing research and sourced costumes for period pieces like Evita and Titanic, eventually moving to Los Angeles herself to reopen her shop in the heart of Hollywood. The shop has both luxury vintage pieces, like sequined Halston gowns and chiffon flapper dresses, and a great under-$99 section with deals on designers like Gucci.

Lauren Lepire’s ability to source items like rare Bob Mackie gowns (worn by the one and only Cher), Courrèges, and Pierre Cardin is vintage magic. A trip to her shop is like playing dress-up in your incredibly chic godmother’s closet, where she tells you all the Hollywood and fashion history behind each special piece. Her wares have been seen recently on celebrities like Kate Moss, Amal Clooney, and Kylie Jenner (she wore a 1998 Hanae Mori haute couture gown from the shop to the 2024 Golden Globes).

For more than 30 years, Cannonball and Tilly founder Laura Kranitz has been dealing vintage wares. The last 20 of those have focused on her central Los Angeles shop, where rockabilly glam and ’90s maximalism come together. (It’s also a favorite of Vogue’s own Emma Specter, who advises you to go for Ethiopian food at Meals by Genet post-shopping.)
