Kim Kardashian's relationship with longtime hairstylist Chris Appleton is likely full of secrets—and last night the latter exclusively shared a big one with Vogue. The '90s inspired updo she rocked at the 2023 CFDA Awards was not a new chop, but actually just clip-in bangs.
“The look was inspired by '90s Pammy,” Appleton tells Vogue. “It was a much more undone look than we’ve done previously and adding piecey bangs really gave it a lived-in finish.”
Kardashian has been busy the past few days. Saturday night, she attended LACMA Art+Film Gala dressed in another Marilyn Monroe-core outfit (this time less literally “Happy Birthday, Mr. President,” more inspired by “Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend”)—no fringe in sight.
For the CFDAs, Appleton prepped Kardashian's hair with Color Wow Raise the Root then dried it with the Shark FlexStyle Hair Blow Dryer & Multi-Styler to create volume. The secret to making the bangs look so realistic is how Appleton placed them.
“I followed her cheekbones for placement,” he says. “Kim and I worked visually, just grabbings hair and pinning it into place. From there, the key element was getting the separation in the bangs.”
