The idea behind Bruno Pieters’ Honest by. collectsion is full transparency. That is, every material used is described and accounted for. “I love when the story behind a piece is as beautiful as the object itself,” he says, and Pieters is happy to tell more stories through collaboration. His newest capsule collectsion is with Belgium-based jewelry designer Heaven Tanudiredja, whose dynamic, handmade pieces often leave you wondering: “How did he possibly make that?” The secrets of his talent may remain elusive, but for this capsule collectsion, the materials and process—a more eco take on Tanudiredja’s fall collectsion inspired by the internal chaos wrought by mental illness—are revealed. “What’s exciting about collaborating with Bruno is that I had to be aware of keeping things environmentally friendly,” Tanudiredja says. “Whatever we tried had to be more eco. We used vintage crystal, we used coloring that was eco, and it’s a good experience because it’s very strict which is something that I like.” The results are breathtaking, particularly a clutch with a pair of writing hands as fasteners. The crystals on the clutch are embroidered into it and seem to be trembling, as if they are infused with anxiety (“I wanted to turn ornament into something explosive,” Tanudiredja says). “I was really amazed by it,” Pieters says of the clutch, but his awe is just as keenly focused on what it’s made of. “Metal isn’t biodegradable, but Heaven gives a lifetime guarantee to the customer, so you never have to throw it away.” Plus, it’s so beautiful, you’d never want to.
