This Week, Stars Used Dramatic Fashion to Elevate the Ordinary 

Not every great outfit necessitates a red carpet. While dressing up for significant events is thrilling, looks worn for running errands or grabbings coffee are often a more authentic representation of a person’s style. This week as celebrities enjoyed coffee runs and the quieter side of life in the spotlight, they made impressive style choices. Hailey Bieber never leaves the house without wearing something interesting, but this weekend in Manhattan, the model outdid herself. In Midtown, as husband, Justin, prepped for his guest spot on Saturday Night Live, Bieber grabbed a latte in one of Bottega Veneta’s fall/winter 2020 fringed shearling coats. A striking mix of pale yellow and sunflower, Bieber’s fluffy coat begged to be touched. Worn with baggy jeans and a matching Coors baseball cap for a high-low combination, the Daniel Lee–designed piece pulled together her entire look. 

Bieber wasn’t the only one wearing high-drama fashion during everyday activities. Irina Shayk broke out the leather when she took daughter, Lea, to the park for a playdate on Wednesday. In her studded Chrome Hearts jacket and tie-dye cut out blouse, Shayk was the coolest mom at the playground—even with Lea’s Minnie Mouse backpack standing in for her purse. 

Even the stars who stayed indoors found ways to use fashion to their advantage. Currently collaborating with director Diablo Cody on a screenplay about her life, Madonna looked to her “eternal muse” Frida Kahlo while getting ready this week. On Friday, the superstar updated her Instagram with a look at her new pastel locks and a piece from Nigerian designer Busayo Olupona’s collectsion. Embellished with shades of emerald, pink, and ice blue, the floor-length mixed print “Shole” dress was unlike anything the Material Girl has ever worn. When a performer who has taken on every possible style, trend, and persona possible can find something new, it is cause for celebration.
