All the Hadid Sisters (There Are 4) Attended Last Night’s Disco Party for La Detresse

A Hadid family reunion of sorts took place last night at the Fleur Room in New York’s Moxy Chelsea hotel. This wasn’t your average family shindig with matching T-shirts and Tupperware takeaways, though there was plenty of tie-dye. The chic rooftop affair kicked off New York Fashion Week with a celebration of the Spring 2020 Acid Drop collectsion by La Detresse, the bohemian clothing brand by Alana Hadid and Emily Perlstein.

In lieu of a fashion show, La Detresse opted for a groovy downtown disco party with glamorous guests dressed in their designs. “We had done tie-dye inspired by the ’70s,” Hadid explained, “so we were thinking, what’s a cool separate fun thing to do? And we thought, acid wash! How much more fun is acid wash, inspired by the ’80s?” The new collectsion adds a combination of tie-dye, acid wash, and cheetah print to their existing line of colorful cotton casuals and denim.

The party was a collaboration between La Detresse and longtime friend Alisha Goldstein, founder of the Jane Smith Agency. Under the rotating vintage disco ball repurposed from the now-shuttered L.A. nightclub Vertigo, partygoers danced and sipped Casamigos cocktails, Whispering Angel rosé, and Sweet Reason CBD water. It was a New York party with a Los Angeles sensibility.

The designer duo, both former stylists, each wore tie-dye La Detresse pullovers in unique ways: Hadid in head-to-toe tie-dye sweats with stacked necklaces, and Perlstein in a sweatshirt, cheetah-print bike shorts, and heels. Queer Eye star Tan France and celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta dropped in for the celebration, but all eyes were on the Hadid family—Gigi, Bella, and father Mohamed all came out to congratulate their sister and daughter Alana. Bella wore an oversized denim jacket with wide-leg cargo pants, while Gigi wore a yellow La Detresse sweatshirt with a Louis Vuitton crossbody fanny pack, black biker shorts, and transparent heels. Who knew sweatshirts could look so stylish?
