Bling Empire’s Jaime Xie Brought Glam Denim to the Balenciaga Show

On Sunday morning, Balenciaga brought New York’s fashion crowd down to Wall Street, where designer Demna showcased his new resort 2023 collectsion inside the New York Stock Exchange. Among the star-studded front row in the unlikely venue were celebrities like Offset, Alexa Demie, and Kanye West (all of whom were decked out in black outfits by the label). Also in attendance was Bling Empire’s Jaime Xie, who is one of the Netflix series’s best-dressed cast members. She tells Vogue she’s a huge Balenciaga fan and would never miss it. “Demna really revolutionized the brand by pushing the boundaries with both his designs and fashion shows,” says Xie. “I’m so glad we have been able to resume in-person shows because Balenciaga’s are always a surprise and something I look forward to. You can really feel the emotion and message come through in his designs.”

Xie—who is a notable street style star and regularly attends fashion month—was instantly smitten with the collectsion, which included a special collaboration with Adidas. “You have to expect the unexpected because Demna’s talent knows no bounds,” says Xie. She also loved the S&M-inspired styling. “One of my favorite parts of this show was the black face coverings and masks that many models wore. The full face coverings really allowed all guests to shift the focus onto the atmosphere and clothes.” She loved the soundtrack too, which “really added to the energy.”

Knowing Demna’s fashions on the catwalk would deliver, Xie needed a strong look for the front row. So she landed on a glam denim look—something Balenciaga has been making one of its signatures as of late. “To me, this look encapsulates masculinity and genderfluidity in clothes,” she says. “Believe it or not, many of the outfits and pieces I own are men’s. I love wearing denim and oversized silhouettes, and Demna is the king at creating looks that all genders can wear.” She added a bright green bag and pointy-toe boots to make it feel truly fashion-show-worthy. “My favorite detail is the oversized neon green bag,” says Xie. “It added the perfect pop of color to my denim look, and the extra-large bag was perfect with the vibe of my outfit.”

The new Balenciaga assortment isn’t the only fashion Xie wants people to check out, though. Having just debuted the second season of her show, Bling Empire, on Netflix, Xie says fans should tune in to see even more spring outfit inspiration. “I wore mainly emerging brands and vintage while we were filming season two, and I’m excited for fashion fans to see all my looks,” she says. “I had a lot of fun styling everything, especially since most of the purchases happened over COVID and I couldn’t wait to finally wear them.” Up next, Xie is off to France for an equally grand affair. “I’m leaving for Cannes today and very tired but very excited because it’s my first time going to the film festival,” she says. “I’ve never been to the city either, so I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s all about firsthand.”
