As designer takeovers go, this was total. In-store, out-store, and on-store—from the food hall to the kidswear department, via womenswear, menswear, jewelry, and pretty much every one of the windows—last night, London’s Harrods was transformed into an extension of planet Dolce & Gabbana. To mark the start of a collaboration that runs until December 28, Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana, and Harrods chief merchant Helen David began by firing up the lights on a Dolce & Gabbana–decorated Christmas tree in front of a crowd of 500 on the sidewalk outside. A brass band imported from Naples played “Jingle Bells” as we oohed. Then, into menswear, where the designers launched a new book charting their recent obsession with casting Insta-famous and well-connected millennials. Local members of that crew, including Maddi Waterhouse, Isabel Getty, Rafferty Law, and Pixie Lott were on hand to sign them.
