The Biggest Trends of the Resort 2018 Collections

Optimism is the name of the game for Resort 2018. Almost every designer we saw looked to peppy colors and artful motifs when calculating their mid-season lineups. There were wacky spins on floral prints, punches of ‘80s-era lime green, and lots of glam leisure. Escapism is also key this season. At Christian Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri swept us off to the Southwest, while Karl Lagerfeld brought the Greek ruins to the middle of Paris for Chanel. If and when the real world gets you down, consider these beautiful, wild, wonderful clothes your foolproof coping mechanisms.

    Forget athleisure. This season, designers gave sporty clothes a glamorous spin. The look was particularly punchy at Valentino, where Pierpaolo Piccioli showed The Get Down-inspired track suits, dresses, and strappy sandals with athletic ankle socks. Game on.

    Goddesses were everywhere during Resort, especially in Karl Lagerfeld’s ethereal collectsion for Chanel. Diaphanous gowns were paired with modern, vibrantly colored gladiator sandals for a new kind of pretty power woman look.

    If Fall laid claim to the cowboy, Resort was all about the artist living in the Southwest. Designers like Maria Grazia Chiuri at Christian Dior and Jonathan Simkhai paid homage to Georgia O’Keeffe and her life outside Santa Fe. The collectsions gave way to a thoughtful and refreshing spin on canyon life.
