Photographed by Marko MacPherson1/15DAY ONE: I run a website called JeanStories.com that’s all about denim (I’m also a Vogue.com contributor). When I’m working from home, I like to dress comfortably. I live in Prospect Heights in Brooklyn, where there are blocks and blocks of historical brownstones with classic stoops. A lot of hanging out happens on my stoop! My jeans are Levi’s Orange Tab, and I love them because they’re sort of mom—high waist, roomy leg—but then the holes make them not-mom, and then the soft-blue color is so pretty and goes with everything.

Photographed by Marko MacPherson2/15My sweatshirt was a steal because I got it at the Jil Sander sample sale. It’s from **Raf Simons’**s fall 2011 collectsion for the house, which I loved—and still love because of how sporty and playful it was.
I love Bumble and Bumble’s Brilliantine, and I mix that with a drop of Leonor Greyl Huile de Palme, but one drop mixed with the Brilliantine just calms any unruly activity. No frizz! Not too oily! On my lips, I like the YSL Sheer Candy lip colors. I stock up at the Duty Free every time I’m at the airport. I am really into lining my eyes with just a bit of gold eyeliner—under the eye only. MAC Powersurge is the one. Because my eyes are a hazel-y/green, the gold just makes them stand out and look especially reflective. I draw a fine line under my eye, all the way into the inner corner, and then I apply black mascara (CoverGirl) to my top lashes after curling them.
Photographed by Marko MacPherson3/15When I visited accessories designer Clare Vivier in L.A. to talk about the denim accessories she’s now making (so chic, by the way), she surprised me with this. The lettering is real gold (!) and the foldover is such a great, versatile shape. It fits a lot, but if you only want to carry a little, it folds in half and still looks smart. I suspect Clare knew that the red and blue color combination would look especially good with denim when she gave it to me.

Photographed by Marko MacPherson5/15DAY TWO: This is a trusty combo of mine: The fur-collared military vest layered under my Balenciaga peacoat. I got the vest at a vintage store on Portobello Road in London and had it tailored to fit me just a tad bit better than it did when I bought it.
Photographed by Marko MacPherson6/15My Balenciaga coat has great proportions, but it isn’t heavy enough for winters in New York. I’ve found, however, that having that bit of fur at my neck underneath the coat keeps me twice as warm.
Photographed by Marko MacPherson7/15I’ve told designer Scott Sternberg and I will tell you all here that I love everything from Band of Outsiders. It is tomboyish but still flirty, and it’s tailored perfectly—always. I wear a lot of white shirts (in a uniform-world, I would pair white shirts with blue jeans every day), but this one is special. It has an asymmetrical yoke in the back, with two pleats—so sweet. My bag is from KARA. I used to work with the woman who designed this bag, Sarah Law, and getting to carry one of her cool creations is especially meaningful to me.
Photographed by Marko MacPherson8/15Because I now direct a website about jeans, I really do have to wear denim every day, so it’s a good thing that I’ve been collectsing it for years! These are a pair from a collaboration that Marni did with Current/Elliott back in 2010. I bought them in Tokyo, and I love that the tuxedo stripe down the side of the leg is actually made of wool. It takes the whole thing down ten notches.
Reed Krakoff’s shoes are exactly how I like mine to be: clean, elegant, and free of frills. What you can’t see here is that the white of the shoe is made of delicate white grosgrain ribbon. It’s beyond beautiful. Let’s say I tread lightly in these . . .
Photographed by Marko MacPherson9/15DAY THREE: I can’t tell you how many of my friends texted, tweeted, and Instagrammed pictures of this denim installation on the Lower East Side to me when it first went up. It’s a Gap project, and I’m sure the piece is wearing-in the same way our jeans do, just by being outside and exposed to all of Lower Manhattan’s elements. My look is efficient today—jeans, puffer, day bag, boots. Good for running around the city on appointments.

My boots are Robert Clergerie. I owe the stylist Marina Muñoz a “thank you” for these—she was wearing them when I shot her for JeanStories.com, and I went straight from the shoot to the store where she bought them to get a pair when we wrapped . . . I liked them that much.
Photographed by Marko MacPherson11/15DAY FOUR: I hold a lot of meetings at the Smile on Bond Street in New York City. It’s cozy, relaxed, and the coffee is excellent. I’m wearing pants by Dries Van Noten, a plaid shirt by I don’t know who (it lost its label long ago), and a Helmut Lang jean jacket—because I have to wear denim every day—that my parents gave me when I was in college. It’s Helmut Helmut (denimheads will know), and it always looks right no matter what the trends do or say.

Photographed by Marko MacPherson13/15I knew when I bought these Marc Jacobs shoes that they A) were really trendy and season-specific, and B) would ultimately have a very long shelf-life if—IF—I was willing to shelf them for a while. So I did (shelf them for a season), and now they feel less like a statement and more like a staple. Success! I think I wear them at least three times a week,with jeans, dresses, and these Dries pants.
Photographed by Marko MacPherson14/15DAY FIVE: Here I’m wearing Baldwin jeans, another new favorite, from Kansas City. I’m actually trying to wear this pair for six months without washing them (it’s for a story for my website; wish me luck!). To counter that grunge factor, I like pairing them with preppier pieces, like my Gitman Bros. shirt and loafers. The blue Céline tote was a gift from my mom, and I love how soft and sacklike it’s gotten with age. It fits everything: laptop, iPad . . . everything.

My husband and I wear matching thick gold bands, and the others I acquired at major turning points in my life. I like to mark my milestones with gold rings. Someday, I hope my hands will be covered in them.
