/8I’m starting the day in my apartment in Bushwick. It’s my first time living in Brooklyn, and I’m enjoying it—especially because there’s room for an actual closet in this space, which I needed. Many of the walls in the apartment are actually pink tile! It looks kind of crazy, but I love it with our plants and my boyfriend’s art. I’m on the couch in my bedroom here in soft leatherette AG pants, which I love for the fact that I could wear them with a wedge heel or shoes like these knitted ones. 2/8Since my legs are long, it can be hard to find cropped jeans that don’t look odd, and these bell-shaped ones are perfect. The shirt, checkered with a nice lime green and brown, is one I found for the store. I think it elevates the whole look. AG Quinne crop leatherette pants, $285, agjeans.com
/8I get my fruit at this Lower East Side market, which is also known for its huge jugs of watermelon slushies—perfect for when it’s hot. This skirt is so cute! That houndstooth print gives me Clueless vibes, which is a movie I watched a million times growing up in Trinidad. I’m excited that the ’90s have returned because back then I didn’t have any money to buy the clothing that was cool. Now it’s my second shot, and I think have the looks down. Even though this outfit is doing so much with the skirt, I feel like the minty AG suede moto jacket kind of balances it out as a neutral, especially with the lavender AG tank underneath. 4/8If I have some free time (which is not a lot, lately, with modeling and the store!), I’ll go to a bookstore like Aeon; I love browsing around. My grandmother passed away recently, and I’ve been researching her spiritual tradition as an Orisha priest. The last book I read was The Way of the Orisha, about Yoruba and African practices. I’m wearing skinny AG jeans that are frayed at the crop, and they’re great because they’re not too hip-hugging or tight. Plus they’re long, which is key. I love to put a turtleneck under everything, including a chic top like this. Soon I’ll have a turtleneck under every printed dress I wear—to stay warm and do the most. AG Chels turtleneck, $138, agjeans.com
/8The Caribbean cafe Miss Lily’s has become my second home since I moved to New York City. There’s good energy and vibes in there, and it’s the closest place to get Trini food without trekking to Brooklyn. They have really good roti, and the curry goat—oh my gosh. I’m wearing a silk top that I made, with beaded straps and hand painting from my boyfriend, Jordan Sullivan. I love that printed yellow-and-brown bag. I feel like it completes the look of everything that shouldn’t go together going together. It’s what I want to look like every day. AG Elvie pant, $498, agjeans.com
/8These plaid AG trousers fit me really well. My nightmare growing up was getting pants that would fit my frame, which is 5-foot-11 and very narrow. I don’t wear heels that often, but I’m getting really into the slip-on look. AG Elvie pant, $498, agjeans.com
/8I opened Dem at the end of May, and I’ve been excited to feature designers from Trinidad like Claudia Pegus and Anya Ayoung Chee. I’m usually modeling three to four times a week, and then every other day I’m in the store, photographing pieces, planning shoots, making fun videos. For the fall I’m hoping to have more events in the space. In August we had a fashion show on the street with different Caribbean designers, rum, and some people playing steel pans. People walking by are always like, “What’s going on inside?” which makes me really happy. I used to have to go so far into Brooklyn to get my Caribbean vibe. AG Chels maxi dress, $268, agjeans.com
/8I laughed when I put on this beautiful maroon dress, and someone told me I definitely look like I own a store. It’s true! I feel like a woman—really polished, confident, and strong. The dress is also so easy and comfortable, and I love it with the belt to create a little shape. And don’t get me started about how excited I became about these funky boots!
