New York Pride in Photos: From the Queer Liberation March to the Stonewall Protests and Beyond

Pride Month is ever-so-slowly drawing to a close, but you wouldn’t have known it from the scene on the streets of New York this past weekend. There were dozens of celebrations, rallies, and events, from Saturday’s Dyke March to Sunday’s Queer Liberation March, NYC Pride Parade and the Stonewall Protests Pride March at the Red Stage—and photographer Ryan McGinley was on hand to capture the scenes.

Unfortunately, not every aspect of Pride went smoothly; on Sunday, NYPD officers stormed the Queer Liberation March at Washington Square Park, marking the second year in a row that New York Pride has turned violent. Despite the intrusion, however, plenty of celebrators continued to revel for the rest of the day, with many flocking to Riis Beach or LGBTQ+ bars like Cubbyhole in the West Village, Good Judy in Park Slope, and Metropolitan in Williamsburg to feel the euphoria that comes from being your fullest self in plain view of your community.
