After months of lavish, sparkly awards season get ups, this week saw the world’s most stylish opting for looks with easy, a veneer of normalcy, but always staying a step beyond basic. A neutral color palette, cunning details. and relaxed but generous proportions ruled the day: to wit, Zendaya’s fresh from the Fall 2019 runway Marc Jacobs outsize navy peacoat, or Gigi Hadid’s little black dress from Prada upgraded by a custom monogrammed pin. Even Charlotte Gainsbourg’s Saint Laurent turtleneck and skirt were deceptively simple separates, the asymmetric hemline and sequined zebra print adding verve and sex appeal.
