Founding a fashion line is always a risk—but even more so when, as fate should have it, you do so right before a once-in-a-life-time pandemic. That’s what happened to Cara Cara, a brand that focuses on printed dresses inspired by vintage archives and far-flung locales, who shipped their first collectsion during spring 2020. It was, to say the least, nerve-wracking.
So that’s perhaps what made their Tuesday night dinner at Bergdorf Goodman, to celebrate both the holiday season and their collectsion being picked up by the iconic department store, feel that much more joyful. “Thank you so much for believing in us,” co-founder Katie Hobbs told a glamorous group of women, which included her co-founders Julia Brown, Sasha Martin, and Katie Hobbs, as well as and Vogue’s Chloe Malle. Bergdorf’s own Linda Fargo served as a host for the evening.
The tablescapes, inspired by the mushroom print seen throughout their new collectsion, evoked an enchanted English garden with its florals by Fox Fodder Farm. Illustrator Bernard Maisner created bespoke menus with botanical and insect motifs.
Guests dined on a salad of autumn greens with figs and sunflower brittle, as well as pan-seared salmon and braised beef short rib. Wine flowed all night, and the conversation, much like the Cara Cara dressed everyone donned, was cheerful. And, despite the playful funghi that dotted the tablecloths, it finally felt like everyone was out of the woods.
