Prabal Gurung used to shred them as a teenager, Holly Fulton covered hers with cameo brooches, and Thakoon Panichgul still has a habit of scribbling all over his with a black Sharpie. For many designers, customizing their first white tee was a sartorial rite of passage. “We used to customize all our clothes when we were in college together,” says Sophie Buhai of her Vena Cava co-designer, Lisa Mayock. “It was the genesis of our working relationship.” With that spirit of creative resourcefulness in mind, Vogue.com asked some of our favorite designers to make over a classic white Hanes T-shirt for spring 2011.
