It appears spring fever has reached forever muse Katie Holmes. Last night, the actor attended an event celebrating beloved designer Christopher John Rogers’s new collaboration with Old Navy. But her slouchy CJR jeans weren’t the only thing that was trending—her new haircut and color are, too.
Holmes is known for her long, brunette hair, which has been a signature for the actor since her Dawson Creek days. Unlike her DC character Joey, Holmes isn’t afraid to ditch the lengths or change up the color. Her “clavi-cut,” a long bob that hits right at the clavicle bone, has been declared universally flattering by many hairstylists in the past because of its approachable length.
“I used the Balyage technique and hand-painted all of the ends to make them lighter and brighter, a sun-kissed finish,” says hairstylist Gina Gilbert, who did both the cut and color transformation at Benjamin Salon in Soho. “I would describe Katie’s color as a dark honey blonde with beige champagne highlights for contrast. I always do a root melt to keep it dimensional.”
But there’s another magical aspect of this cut: It’s short enough to add some edge, but long enough to throw up in a ponytail. When it comes to the hue, she’s checking off one of 2026’s biggest hair color trends with a champagne-blonde shade that hints at sunnier days ahead.
Holmes is in great haircut company. Just this year, Margot Robbie, Penélope Cruz, and Gracie Abrams have all gone shorter this year—and Holmes will likely inspire many more to follow suit.
