This Week, the Best Dressed Stars Suited Up

Power dressing can take on many forms, but nothing beats a great suit. Lately, stars are taking cues from the corporate world when stepping out for work. Thanks to their menswear influences and expert tailoring, many of the moment’s best looks were straight out of the haberdashery. 

Acting stars set the week’s mood. Zoey Deutch and Gabrielle Union both focused on modernized versions of the three-piece suit. While at a meeting in New York City on Thursday, Union wore one of Bella Freud’s pantsuits. Navy with tortoiseshell fastenings and a matching vest beneath its blazer, the effect was pure Savile Row. Skipping the fussiness of a buttoned-up blouse, Union revealed a hint of skin by keeping the vest unbuttoned at the bottom, then polished off the whole ensemble with stilettos and a pair of golden necklaces. 

Deutch took the idea further while promoting The Outfit on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She enhanced the subtle sexiness of her Kim Jones-designed Fendi suit by wearing a minimalist bralette beneath. The teensiest metallic Zucca logo peeked out from beneath Deutch’s suit as her oversized Delfina Delettrez hoops continued the golden theme that elevated the look beyond basic black. 

Business may have been the week’s buzzword, but one of its most exciting moments came when a Succession broke from the corporate context. Last season, Siobhan “Shiv” Roy may have been stuck with a questionable wardrobe, but Sarah Snook has no such problems. At the 74th Annual Directors Guild Of America Awards, Snook dazzled in a vintage Bob Mackie gown from Shrimpton Couture. Worn with black gloves, a diamond choker, and plenty of attitude, it was worlds away from anything Snook’s onscreen alter-ego would wear and all the better for it.
