The Best Dressed Stars of the Week Went for Simple, Slinky Formalwear

When you think of formal evening wear, “effortless” may not be the first adjective that comes to mind—but this week, the best dressed stars on the red carpet proved that dressing up doesn’t have to mean wearing a complicated design. Hollywood A-listers opted for simple, slinky fabrications that still felt polished and elegant. The tip for pulling off a minimal gown? It’s all in the silhouette, color, and, of course, the great statement accessories that come with it.

At the Fast X premiere in Rome, actor Brie Larson wore an archival Versace gown. Its plunging neckline added an instant wow factor to the otherwise pared-back look. At the same event, Charlize Theron chose Dior’s black sheer couture dress, which exposed a mini skirt and bra underneath. Paired with a beret and sky-high heels, the look felt elevated and fresh. An exposed bra is becoming a bit of a trend: Jennifer Lopez also embraced the look at the premier of her film The Mother in L.A. She went tonal in Brunello Cucinelli, pairing a cream bra top with a long overcoat and high-waisted floor-length skirt.

Bold colors also made a cameo this week, too. At FIT’s 2023 Future of Fashion celebration in New York City, model Karlie Kloss chose Schiaparelli’s red hot silky gown. The deep-V cut and gold strap detailing was designed to turn heads. At a Veuve Clicquot event in London, Jodie Turner-Smith also embraced bright red—only, she rocked David Kona’s shaggy shearling coat instead, complete with a classic white tank and dress trousers. It’s a look so good it has us contemplating wearing heavy outerwear in the summer.
