In Hollywood, Hervé Léger and Law Roach Celebrated Their Collaboration With a Vogue-ing Competition

The Hervé Léger bandage dress is officially back—thanks in large part to Hollywood stylist Law Roach. Last year, after dressing actress Tiffany Haddish in a black number with taffeta sleeves on the red carpet, the look went viral, the dress sold out, and search interest for the brand jumped by 74%. And so, a collaboration was a natural, next move. “I knew the brand because I knew girls who wore it in the nineties, and I had all these references and photos saved,” says Law, who created a few more viral moments last month after styling Bella Hadid and Anne Hathaway in a series of show-stopping archival designer pieces at the Cannes Film Festival. “I was reintroduced when I did America’s Next Top Model with Tyra [Banks]. She was a Hervé girl and walked in all the shows, so you know it’s just been bubbling for me.”

Those bubbles came to a boil when the brand’s creative director, Christian Juul Nielsen, reached out to Law and gave him carte blanche to create a collectsion for Resort 23. “Archival and vintage on carpets is so my thing,” says Law, who started his fashion career at his Deliciously Vintage boutique in Chicago. “I knew I wanted to do a dive deep into the archives and pay homage to the DNA of the brand, so we started there.” The result is a limited-edition 25-piece collectsion featuring iconic bandage dresses, mix and match separates, and a catsuit, all of which Roach designed with his styling community at the front of mind. “I wanted to create pieces that they could use on their clients,” he says. “I did it all with that in mind, like who’s this girl and where can she wear this to? It could be the red carpet or editorial or Good Morning America. I wanted to make things that were really wearable and versatile.”

To celebrate the launch, Nielsen and Roach hosted a high-wattage party at the landmarked Citizen-News building in Hollywood on Wednesday night. DJ Lina Bradford, wearing a rainbow bandage dress in honor of Pride, entertained the crowd, which included Hailee Steinfeld, Gigi Goode, Chantal Jeffries, Draya Michele, Chriselle Lim, and Rocky Barnes. As guests sipped on cocktails and snacked on finger food courtesy of Motherwolf chef Ethan Funke, Roach kicked off the proceedings with a catwalk presentation. Before the night was out, however, the catwalk was joined by the duckwalk as Roach’s Legendary castmates Matthew McAllister, Daylen Taylor, Polina Glen, and Isaiah Victor took to the floor for a vogue-ing competition. Judge Dashaun Wesley MCed the battle, but Roach let the crowd pick the winner.

“This is a celebration for me, not just of a collectsion but a celebration of what’s possible,” he said as he surveyed the scene. “I’m living my dreams every day, and I want other people who know my story and where I’m coming from, to know that they also can also live their dreams. Everything’s possible.”
