In Aspen, Kate Hudson, Anna Kendrick, and Jason Wu Celebrate The St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship 

Every year, The St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship kicks off the holiday season in Aspen, Colorado, where the town’s trees are illuminated and festive garlands are hung with care. True to form, local revelers also don their festive finery to enjoy the outdoor match. They arrived at Rio Grande Park on Sunday morning to find something altogether unexpected: Kate Hudson on horseback. 

Yes, with a bit of help from Melissa and Marc Ganzi, husband-and-wife founders of the Aspen Valley Polo Club, Hudson had been coaxed atop one of the prized polo ponies, gripping a mallet and gamely posing for photos alongside Nacho Figueras. “I grew up with a polo field in my backyard in Old Snowmass, and I’ve been watching Nacho play there for years,” Hudson, wearing a fuchsia face mask and Bogner ski suit found just a day earlier from cult favorite local ski shop Gorsuch, told Vogue. “So, the fact that I’ve never been to a snow polo match is insane! I grew up here! When they invited me, of course, I said yes.” 

After dismounting, she was joined in the sidelines by fiancé Danny Fukijawa, and Figueras’ wife, Delfina Blaquier, who cheered on as her husband played alongside fellow polo masterminds Nic Roldan (who was briefly dismounted and stomped by an opposing pony before making an impressive recovery) and Melissa Ganzi. Together, they took on Sarah Siegel Magness, Jesse Bray, and Pablo MacDonough, who edged out as the winners of the High Alpine Cup. 

“We’ve been celebrating and supporting snow polo for over 100 years, since the Astors,” George Fleck, Global Brand Leader for St. Regis Hotels, told us. “This brings people together in beautiful Aspen and lives up to our promise to live exquisite.” Kitty Jacob Astor II, the Bernese Mountain Dog named after the dog once owned by the founders of the St. Regis New York, John Jacob Astor IV and Madeleine Astor, was less interested in the match play, preferring the mingle among the partygoers looking for pets and treats. Jason Wu and perfumer Carlos Arquiste, both collaborators and friends of the hotel and Kitty, happily obliged. “I mean, you really have the best of everything here,” Wu told Vogue. “I can’t think of a better kickoff to the holidays.”
