That pack rat mentality has paid off in some ways for the sisters, whose closets are filled with vintage, sentimental, and painfully cool clothing that aligns with their laid-back, California-cool style. In Vogue’s 7 Days 7 Looks series, the Haim sisters reveal a rare eye for covetable vintage finds, from Levi’s and well-worn band tees to thrifted structural leather jackets.
On Monday, the Haim sisters showed off favorites from their vintage T-shirt collectsion, including a rare Black Sabbath tee (one of the sisters’ favorite bands), and an Earth, Wind & Fire 1988 tour T-shirt that Danielle found in Tokyo (another favorite). Each tee is styled with casual denim and an of-the-moment boot to anchor the outfits—Labucq lug soles for Alana, By Far booties for Este, and Simon Miller Chelseas for Danielle.
While the three Haim sisters share overlapping curiosities, the trio doesn’t always dress the same. Thursday’s “throwback looks” exemplified each sister’s individual style with a mix of well-loved pieces they have worn for years on end. Este decided on a striped sweater and skater skirt from their very first record cover, Days Are Gone. “It’s kind of coming apart, but I’m never getting rid of it,” she shares, showing the sweater’s unspooling hemline to the camera. Alana opts for a vintage Madonna Boy Toy shirt and a pair of leather pants from the band’s first bucket-list performance on SNL. “I’ve never been so nervous in my entire life, so I needed Madonna energy onstage.” Danielle’s throwback outfit hails from Haim’s first Coachella performance, where she chose a pair of vintage Levi’s cutoffs and a black Chloé top by Clare Waight Keller. “I love a strong shoulder, so this kind of felt like armor onstage,” Danielle says while flexing her muscles.
The big takeaway is that the Haims do not chase trends; instead they often opt for pieces with history or nostalgic narratives. It’s a nice reminder to cherish your favorite clothes and the stories attached to them.
