Vogue100 and Bergdorf Goodman Celebrated Emerging Talents in the Store’s Only In New York Campaign 

For over a century, Bergdorf Goodman has remained synonymous with New York fashion. To kick off the fall 2023 collectsions, the legendary luxury department hosted a special luncheon with Vogue100. The gathering also toasted the retailer’s new campaign, ”Only in New York,” dedicated to the city’s eccentric style icons. Artist Joana Avillez illustrated these fabulous individuals in an imagined dream dinner party setting. Chloe Sevigny stuns in a Proenza Schouler ensemble, Vogue’s editor-at-large Gabriella Karefa-Johnson looks smashing in a Diotima, and Antwaun Sargent dons a dapper patchwork suit by Bode. 

On an unseasonably warm afternoon, Bergdorf’s Linda Fargo hosted a dazzling group of tastemakers and editors. With her usual grace and warmth, the hostess welcomed an energetic group, including a few campaign stars like Dara Allen and special guest Jemima Kirke, who will be illustrated in real-time during fashion week. “There are a couple of times of year that are very, very special,” Fargo smiled. “And the beginning of a new season is one of them. When you think about it, a new season is really the crescendo of a tremendous amount of creativity and work from the designers, buyers, and all the helping hands, big or small.” 

Enjoying the life-size illustrations, Tanya Taylor stunned in a beige look of her own designs. Corina Larpin sparkled in her Stefere jewels while Vogue editors Lilah Ramzi, Alexis Bennett, Mai Morsch, and Cassandra Pintro took a break from their show schedule to sip Champagne and chat about the upcoming week. 

After a reception on the third floor amongst the life-size illustrations, attendees descended to the retailer’s beauty floor. The recently unveiled dining room was designed by Kit Kemp, best known for her work at the Firmdale Hotels. The colorful and whimsical cocoon served as the perfect venue for a savory feast, which kicked off with chips and caviar, of course. Before everyone dove into the delicious lunch course, the signature chicken salad over a bed of seasonal greens, Vogue’s Laura Patterson rose to address the group.  

“For us at Vogue, one of the greatest joys of NYFW is seeing homegrown talent take flight,” Paterson began, “As everyone knows, the CFDA and Vogue’s partnership is longstanding, and we are privileged to see and nurture the early days of designers careers. From Jack and Lazaro of Proenza Schouler, who have now celebrated 20 years in the industry, to Bode and Khaite, who both launched in 2016, and An Only Child who debuted in 2021. The chance to know these designers, wear them, and be patrons of American fashion is something we hope you’ll relish along with us.”

Echoing Paterson, Fargo shared a final few words. “The fashion industry is nothing if it isn’t something that continuously reinvents itself. We’re very fortunate that New York and America, for that matter, really encourages and gets behind new voices” 

To say that guests left with excitement and energy for the highly anticipated fashion week ahead would be an understatement.
