Photo: Rebecca Smeyne2/9My 3-D-printed wedding dress was a collaboration between Chromat, designer Francis Bitonti, and Intel. It was printed by Voodoo Manufacturing—a huge 3-D print farm in Bushwick. I love 3-D printing—I’m excited for the day when all garments are able to be downloaded, customized to your body scan, and printed out at home.
Photo: Rebecca Smeyne3/9Christine and I were married at City Hall in downtown Manhattan. We showed up at the courthouse with our family and closest friends and took a number. There were brides running around everywhere—it was super-fun and festive. When our number was called, our whole family cheered like we had won the lottery.
Photo: Rebecca Smeyne4/9Once we received our marriage license, we were married by Christine’s family friend and ordained minister Craig in a little garden right outside the courthouse. It was amazing having all our family, from Virginia and beyond, there with us.

Photo: Rebecca Smeyne7/9We wanted the reception to be very festive, laid-back, and bring together our artist friends and family at a big party with DJs and dinner at Secret Project Robot in Bushwick. SPR is a special place to us where our friends have had their art events, performances, and dance rehearsals, and it feels very comfortable. My one request was air dancers—I think they’re hilarious—so we had two blowing on generators on the rooftop of the venue all night. We collaborated with our artist friend Minka Sicklinger for a special hand-painted sign.
Photo: Rebecca Smeyne8/9Our first dance was to Mapei’s “Don’t Wait,” and we had a whole lineup of DJs from Christine’s Discwoman collectsive: Katie K Rex, Kim Anh, Kerry Bearcat Murphy, Joey LaBeija and Abby, Yulan Grant. My dad and brother are musicians, and they teamed up with Lauren Flax to write and perform a song for us!
Photo: Rebecca Smeyne9/9Dinner was about us—a combination of traditional Vietnamese foods from Christine’s family’s country and Southern foods from my side. Catered by Linda and Julie at Little Mo, they created Vietnamese bao and spring rolls; Christine’s mom, Van, brought a fruit plate; we had fried chicken, collard greens, and mac and cheese from Peaches HotHouse in Bed-Stuy; pizza from Roberta’s; donuts from Peter Pan. Our wedding cake was from Ovenly, and featured a 3-D-printed cake topper of us. We were body-scanned by our friends and long-time collaborators at Formlabs.
The entire night was magical, filled with so much love from friends and family. After the wedding, we hit the road on a 10-day trip to New Orleans and stopped in Nashville; Atlanta; the NASA center in Huntsville, Alabama; Choctaw, Mississippi; Savannah, Georgia; and Asheville and Southport in North Carolina along the way! Here’s to many more celebrations and adventures to come!
