For most people, including myself, working from home has become the new normal. In the two weeks since the shelter-in-place order was issued in New York, my usual morning commute from Brooklyn to Lower Manhattan has become a much shorter journey from my bed to the couch. Though adjusting to social distancing has been challenging, I have come to realize that maintaining some semblance of a routine has been helpful.
One of the ways I have re-established a sense of normalcy in my life has been by getting dressed every morning. Initially, the thought of waking up, showering, and putting on clothes, only to go sit on my couch, was daunting. And honestly, did not seem practical. Why put on regular clothes with nowhere to go, and essentially, no one to see? But as the number of zoom video conference calls on my calendar grew, I grew weary of looking at the screen only to see an image of my just-rolled-out-of-bed self staring back at me. What’s more, having the same sweats and T-shirts in rotation for the last two weeks has hardly done much for my own productivity. In hopes of bringing some excitement to my living room and a boost of energy to my creativity, I’ve switched out my sweatshirts for more fun and vibrant work from home tops to wear for my Zoom meetings. From throwing on my favorite Asai Hot Wok tie-dye turtleneck to my beloved Issey Miyake Pleats Please top, I bid adieu to my once disheveled Zoom appearance and welcome my new and improved work from home tops. If we're going to be stuck indoors for the foreseeable future then why not kick off my 9AM meeting by wearing a neon-green patterned top from Nomia? And let’s not forget the best part, no one has to know I’m still wearing sweatpants!
