Dolce & Gabbana: Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear
Released on 03/01/2011
[upbeat music]
[Pat] This season's split.
So we've got makeup that's very boyish with strong eyebrows,
a little bit of smoke around the eyes,
and the girls have got rouge-y and buttery skin
and the beautiful stain on the lips.
[Guido] I've been doing these very
sort of beautiful, soft girl.
Half the show's that. And then half's
this sort of like cool, sisseton boy.
There's always been a boy/girl dynamic
in Dolce and Gabbana's womenswear.
This season they've pushed it into pure pop country.
[Stefano] Look at the Janelle
You know Janelle the singer. She's so feminine.
But she dress all the time like a boy.
This is the mood. But I think the woman
start again love to play with fashion.
[retro music]
[Stefano] In '84 you know the young generation
is so cool about fashion. And they play with the clothes.
It is totally in fashion but out fashion.
And by this eye, we sketch this collectsion.
[Tim] Do you see a different kind of
energy for Dolce & Gabbana? Or are they recognizing
something that's always been a part of they're language.
Well I think they're always doing
something really sexy. And, actually, this
kind of female dressing as a male...
Maybe it's a new sexy.
[Tim] It's not androgyny though is it?
[Stefano] No, no, no, no. It's so feminine.
This is a men's coat in sequins.
So this with a little dress, and she wear the classic
men's but in sequins.
The earing like a star because the star is
important to the collectsion.
[Tim] Why is the star important?
[Stefano] Because all the woman is a star.
This is another one.
The cut is a broquet.
[Tim] And this is a tomboy look, obviously.
[Stefano] Yeah. The jacket is really short
The proportions [inaudible] and the men's trouser,
and the shoes is in lace.
[Tim] I know that Stefano Gabbana
was very influenced by Fiorucci...
Well this star is basic for Fiorucci in the 60s.
They're were many many stars in the printing.
It's intelligent, it's simple. I love it.
In every generation there's always that turning point
with, you know, T-Rex, David Bowie of the 70s.
Then we have the 80s-- Culture Club, Boy George.
And then kids are doing their version today.
[Tim] That collectsion seems to be recognizing
something that's going on in the world at large.
You know, with kids, that there's a sort of much more
fluid sense of identity than there used to be.
Yeah, I think it's not just gender identity.
It's fashion trend identity. Anything goes really.
I think the moment of doing something one way is over.
[Tim] Are these tomboys and girls going on dates?
Yes, at the same time. [laughing]
