Chrissy Metz’s Red Carpet Look Brought Size-Exclusivity to the Fore at the Critics’ Choice Awards

The fashion at the Oscars and the Golden Globes may garner the most press, but the annual Critics Choice festivities are the awards season’s stylish sleeper hit. Last night, at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, Hollywood’s biggest stars arrived dressed to the nines in pieces direct from the runways. But for her big night, This is Us star Chrissy Metz went in a more unexpected direction—created specifically for the occasion, her black beaded wrap gown marked the red carpet debut of size-inclusive e-tailer 11 Honoré’s private label.

In the past, the company has worked with stylists and designers to outfit stars like Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson in custom designer fare for high-profile events, but Metz’s look was produced entirely in-house. Described by CEO and founder Patrick Herning as a collectsion of “pared-back essentials that can be worn time and time again with an emphasis on luxurious fabrics and incredible fit,” the forthcoming private label aims to fill a void within the contemporary market. The red carpet glamour of Metz’s gown differs from the final edit shoppers will be able to access when the line launches later this year, but it made for a grand debut. “[It’s] what it stands for,” says Herning. “Our ability and goal to dress more women.”

For Metz, the gown provided effortless elegance—a must during a three-hour-long ceremony. “I don’t think you have to sacrifice comfort for style. With this dress, so much care was taken, [so] that the material is comfortable and you can breathe, which is important when you have to be on or at an awards show,” she says. Paired with Neil Lane jewelry and an Edie Parker clutch by stylist Hayley Atkin, the look came together in dazzling style, meaning that getting ready was a breeze. ““I always think that when things are easy, it’s like wait when is the other shoe going to drop? Or is that real? But sometimes when things are easy, that’s when it’s meant to be,” says Metz. “[Collaborating with 11 Honoré] has been easy and fun, and I feel really lucky.”

Seated with her co-stars Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, and Sterling K. Brown, Metz enjoyed an evening surrounded by Hollywood royalty. “It was fun to mingle and see the other actors you’ve been obsessing over,” she says. “These are critics who have opinions, take their jobs seriously—being nominated is a big deal.” The room may have been filled with Hollywood luminaries, but Metz described the atmosphere as “chill”—it was a well-deserved celebration, elevated by the perfect ensemble.
