This Week, the Best Dressed Stars Kept Their Clothes Artsy & Effortless

Comfortable fashion has become synonymous with athleisure, but there’s more than one way to feel cozy. Last week, as celebrities headed to film festivals and parties, they sought out going-out looks with the right combination of casual ease and visual interest. At the Filming Italy Festival in Santa Margherita di Pula, WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen embodied the current mood. Olsen, who was honored with the festival’s Woman Power Award for her work onscreen, packed an array of loose patterned dresses for her trip. Though she changed outfits several times, her standout moment came thanks to a raw hemmed tunic from Another Archive’s spring/summer 2021 collectsion. Created in collaboration with Catalan painter Lidia Massllorens, the pieces are detailed with an abstract brushstroke print and inspired by muses throughout history, all of which made it a perfect choice for Olsen. 

Artistic touches helped to elevate otherwise simple looks. The airy silk trousers and blouse that designer Roksanda Ilinčić wore to check out Cartier’s Studio 7 photography exhibition at London’s Saatchi Gallery were effortless, but their pattern took them to the next level. Inspired by the still life paintings in Ilinčić’s studio, the head-to-toe print was bursting with color and energy. Pajama-esque, but far too interesting to be reserved for bedtime, Ilinčić’s separates were as compelling as the art on the walls. 

At Loewe’s Goya gala in Shanghai, model Liu Wen chose a piece from Jonathan Anderson’s fall/winter 2021 look book with a similarly carefree vibe. She wore her spangled black halter neck gown with sneakers and a smile, paring down its glitz without losing any of the madcap energy that made Anderson’s collectsion thrilling. 

Even the week’s structured dresses went in unexpected directions. Florence Pugh has made a habit of wearing great mini-dresses, and her crimson number from Khaite at the Studio 7 party was no exception. Short, sweet, and to the point, the look was another win for Pugh. Still, the week’s grandest style moment belonged to Misia, who dazzled at the Tokyo Olympics’ opening ceremony in an airbrushed tulle creation from Tomo Koizumi. With its rainbow colors and outsize proportions, the piece was destined to make a splash, and it won over the millions who tuned in to watch the global competition kick-off.
