Annie Leibovitz Photographs Rooney Mara for Vogue’s October Issue

Rooney Mara is not afraid to turn her focus inward. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star traded in Hollywood fame for emotionally challenging indie projects, constant travel, and self-development. “What I try to live by now is: It doesn’t matter what other people think,” she says. “I have to get good at myself.” And so, where most rising actresses go right, our October cover star turned left.
