On Friday evening, Clarins returned to its now-favorite Los Angeles perch: the Dolby Family Terrace at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. This time around, the French beauty brand was celebrating the launch of its Extra-Firming Energy Moisturizer. With a bash hosted in the building’s glittering glass dome, the rooftop ablaze in Clarins’ signature red and the Hollywood Hills glowing in the distance, the night exuded top tier glamour.
Awards season may have officially wrapped, but no one had told the guest list. The beauty crowd dressed accordingly—walking the bright orange carpet (a nod to the new ginseng-infused cream) in sequin gowns and trains that swept the floor.
Waiters wove through the crowd carrying trays of the evening’s ‘extra-savory’ themed menu items: fried chicken sandwiches stacked with pimento cheese, pickled red onions, and green tomato jam, as well as sweet potato fries and curried carrot falafels with saffron tahini. Cocktails flowed, and DJ Tay James kept the energy high—joined, at one point, by a live violinist to make the soirée feel even more extra.
Among those who had shown up and shown out were Nara Smith and Lucky Blue Smith, Samara Weaving, Malin Akerman, Brooks Nader, Rainey Qualley, Paris Brosnan, Jackie Aina, Quenlin Blackwell, Sophia Culpo, Tell Me Lies co-stars—and real life couple—Spencer House and Sonia Mena, and Love Story’s Noah Fearnley. In between posing in front of wall-to-wall backdrops of cult products like the Double Serum, guests drifted to stations stocked with Clarins’ new Extra-Firming formulas to get a first look.
Weaving served as proof that the right beauty routine can carry you all the way to the finish line. “As a pregnant woman, the water retention is real,” the radiant actress laughed. “So I’ve been doing a lot of lymphatic massages. I’m also moisturizing like it’s my job, because I want to avoid stretch marks, and using vitamin C to help ward off melasma.” As she looked around the packed, pulsing rooftop she raised her eyebrows. “I’m due in like a week—so this party could be the last hurrah.”
Nearby, Akerman—fresh off filming season two of Hunting Wives—was still feeling the influence of her character Margo Banks. “For Margo the goal is to be as shiny and bronzed as possible,” she said. Meanwhile off-set and off-duty, she’s pared her routine right back to the basics. “I love the Clarins Contour Body Firming and Toning Treatment Oil, but that’s about it.”
Rainey Qualley had brought her daughter, Bluebell Coyote, along for the evening and was preparing to duck out early for bedtime. The singer shared that she’s inherited a more stripped-back beauty philosophy thanks to her own mom, Andie MacDowell. As for what that looks like? Sunscreen, and a good night’s sleep are the essentials.
Clarins had saved the best for last, and as the clock struck 10 p.m., Maroon 5 took to the stage and the rooftop erupted. Adam Levine opened with Sugar, as the floor shook beneath a crowd that absolutely did not need convincing when it came to dancing. This Love kept the mood elevated as longtime friends Behati Prinsloo and Candice Swanepoel sang along from the VIP area with abandon.
After a final rendition of the hit Sunday Morning, even this crowd took the hint. On the way out, guests grabbed a Clarins goodie bag, containing all the necessities for restorative weekend.
