Every Friday (and plenty of days during the week, if I’m honest) you’ll find me in my J Brand Skinny maternity leggings, the best, stretchiest and most slimming maternity jeans around. I wear them with my black Stuart Weitzman Lowland boots and a $19 camo jacket from Forever 21 and pretend I’m a tough girl.

Nothing says casual and comfy like an oversize jean jacket. I wear mine with anything and everything! Sweatpants, mini skirts, and most importantly, the perfect black T-shirt.

My denim uniform is iCal sensitive. Ripped skinny Re/Dones and a Manolo feels more mid-week uniform. For Friday, I like a comfortable, yet slim-line look: a polished Khaite high-waister and Adidas original Gazelle or ballet pump. The smarter the jean, the more casual the shoe (blue-sky thinking? Or denim logic?!).

My Friday denim look is a hat-tip to the denim-on-denim uniform Bob Marley made sexy, cool, and iconic back in the ’70s. He had this ability to wear fitted jackets and the perfectly broken-in pair of jeans, a combination we could cheekily describe as the “Jamaican tuxedo.”

I try to not wear denim to the office too often, but when I do, there are just a few styles I stick to. J Brand’s Photo Ready Cropped Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans in dark gray or white worn with a coordinating tonal crewneck, floor-skimming duster, and paired with suede Chelsea boots or Yeezy sneakers. The only other jeans I’ve been living in are Fear of God’s light-wash selvedge jeans. They look good with anything, but I like wearing them with a chambray shirt for a modern spin on denim-on-denim dressing.

I have a pair of faded boyfriend-meets-mom jeans that I bought a few years ago at the Gap and that are weirdly flattering. I wear them most Fridays, along with a boatneck top and Rag & Bone boots or, when I’m really feeling the Fridays, my seizure-inducing Adidas Irina high tops. Trés grown-up.

High waisted ’80s-vibe jeans from ASOS with a gray sweatshirt tucked in and velvet Dries Van Noten boots (usually come Friday, these are subbed for beat-up Vans or Stan Smiths). And always a couple of layered gold necklaces to make it look like I tried a little.

On Fridays in the colder months, I rotate between my super-high-rise Imogene + Willie jeans in blue and black—I find that winter layering requires a clean, slimmer jean (rather than my ratty vintage Levi’s) so I don’t look like a total slob. I usually wear them with a shrunken vintage tee, my Thom Browne cardigan, and my green men’s shearling coat from Coach. Unless it’s wet out, I’ll always be in either Converse high tops or Vans Sk8-His, any day of the week.

My Friday denim wardrobe tends to be a pretty strict uniform: either AMO’s Jane or Kate jean with Belgian loafers, a striped La Ligne sweater or T-shirt, and either my Marc Jacobs tweed or J.Crew houndstooth blazer. I like for half of me to look like I’m on a British hunt and the other part to look like I’m a cowboy. It’s a little schizophrenic, but I guess both have horses in common.

Vintage perfectly cropped Levi’s from Collection, a light T-shirt, the coziest sweater I can find, and a great pair of shoes depending on the season: slides for spring and summer, loafers for fall, and boots come winter.

I’m all for non-stretch jeans, but on Fridays a little bit of wiggle room is nice. I have Topshop’s straight-leg style in three washes and am considering ordering a white pair; they’re really soft and thick like vintage jeans, but really comfy, too, thanks to 1 percent stretch. Then it’s either an oversize button-down or my favorite Raey navy cashmere sweater, which is super-thin so I can tuck it in. I wear it so much that it’s starting to pill, so I might need to order a few back-ups! I’m also on the hunt for the perfect boxy cropped sweater to wear with high-rise jeans—why is that so hard to find?

Fridays are often my double-denim days, but I love mixing shades. Nine times out of 10 I’ll be in a skinny- or straight-leg jean, often with a slightly distressed cuff. From there I’ll throw on a boyfriend-style denim jacket (ideally one that covers the hips) or my go-to dark-wash denim trench. A well-cut, loose black crewneck tee underneath, and I’m good to go.

I very often find myself in a Canadian tuxedo on Friday. Dark skinny jeans from Rag & Bone, a vintage light-wash button-down, leather moto jacket, and Chelsea boots.

I’m not really one for a uniform, but I’ve been having a lot of fun lately layering up all the pretty dresses I wore in the summer over jeans. It’s a good casual Friday look for me, because I can wear sneakers or a pair of flat Chelsea boots and feel cozy in a way that’s more whimsical than sloppy. I’ll usually throw them over jeans that are cropped at the ankle; I have a couple of good pairs by Re/Done that I’m into right now.

My go-to Friday denim is a pair of cropped flare jeans from The Row. They’re sort of like jeggings, but much more flattering, as they are high-rise and hit just at the ankle. I own three of the exact same ones! I like to pair them with a cozy sweater from Aritzia, usually cropped to show off the high-rise silhouette, and voilà! I’m ready to go.
