Document Journal Celebrates Its New Issue with a Friendsgiving Feast

“I thought this was going to be an intimate dinner,” laughed a guest during the cocktail hour of Document Journal. “I almost brought a pie!” Yes, it might have been a Friendsgiving, but this is still a fashion world party after all, and by those standards the 50-ish guests that tucked into the Public Hotel’s rooftop was still intimate. The crowd was a smattering of locals still haunting the city during the Thanksgiving holiday, like Walt Cassidy, Richie Shazam, Kiki Willems, and Maria Cornejo, and collaborators and stars of Document Journal’s latest issue, including Mario Sorrenti, Grace Coddington, and Marlon James.

During the cocktail hour, who was cooking what—and where and when—for Thanksgiving was a chief topic of conversation, with models trading vegan pie recipes while others admitting plans to just show up at a friend’s place with a bottle of wine in tow. Thankfully for all, Public did the cooking last night, offering up a wintery feast of roasted vegetables and endless wine pours to get the crowd sated and prepped for a night on the dance floor. As those exiting for an early night headed to the elevators, organizers were strategizing the best way to keep the after-party upstairs under control. “It’s already packed and there’s a huge line!” cheered one. OK, so if the dinner was intimate, the after-party was definitely anything but.
