From the Runways to Zoom: 11 Looks to Inspire Your Next Video Call

There are two ways to get dressed in self-isolation: For yourself or for your video calls. In the former, I would advocate for wearing whatever the hell you want! You’re at home, who’s to judge? For video calls too, I would say that you should stick to your own sense of personal style—however, the sternum-up frame of most Zooms, FaceTimes, or Houseparties won’t do much to show off your Rick Owens platform boots or sequin Prada skirts.

So for innovative, upper-half dressing, I’ve been looking to the fall 2020 runways for inspiration. Miu Miu does it best, with knit bodysuits with sailor collars and long sleeves that conclude in a leotard bottom. (No one will know that you’re not wearing pants!) At Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia presciently sent out a T-shirt with an upwards arrow on a model with Zoom green-screen-dyed hair. Prada, Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana all paired shirting and ties on top with completely transparent bottoms, while Gucci put a proper dress over ripped, ragged jeans. Perhaps no look is more video-ready than Matty Bovan’s curtain frocks, however—it’s a smart fix for when that pesky Zoom background won’t work.
