There’s how you pose for the camera—and how you pose for your friends. The distinction is clear in Kaia Gerber’s snaps from the 2022 Met Gala, where artifice gave way to authentic playfulness. The model, who moonlit as a photographer during cocktail hour and dinner, captured her subjects in a celebratory mood—with the cacophony of the red carpet behind them, everyone was ready to finally have a little fun.

“Smile!” she said upon spotting Evan Mock, Camila Mendes, and Ami’s Alexandre Mattiussi hanging out together at The Charles Engelhard Court in The American Wing, who then playfully struck a pose.  Some of her other subjects? Former Bridgerton costars Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page as they walked around the galleries together. (Page delivering a particularly lively smolder.) At dinner, Cara Delevingne threw open her jacket to show Gerber her gilded bust. And throughout the night, the model turned an adoring lens on her boyfriend, Austin Butler, as he chatted to Ansel Elgort or took in the splendor of the Temple of Dendur.
