Tomo Koizumi Designed “the Christmas Tree” at Katie Grand and Poppy Delevingne’s Holiday Party 

When Elsa Schiaparelli said, “in difficult times, fashion is always outrageous,” it’s likely she wasn’t referring to Christmas trees. Perhaps her spirit was hovering over East London last night as designer Matty Bovan appeared dressed like a Christmas tree at the LOVE holiday party, co-hosted by Katie Grand and Poppy Delevingne at Bistrotheque.

Following the fashion of recent years of holiday decorations in top London hotels and restaurants being created by world-famous designers and artists, Grand called upon Japanese designer Tomo Koizumi to create a gargantuan rainbow ruffle “tree” dress on the six-foot-five Bovan.

The jolliest “tree” entered mid-soirée (surprising the very confused guests who’d been looking for the real tree!) and proceeded to circle the room (groovily covered in silver foil and Factory-style decorations) and chatted with guests including Courtney Love, Maisie Williams, and models Lexi Boling, Finn Buchanan, and Rafferty Law. “Twinkle Toes” cocktails were served, with retro cheese puffs, followed by pistachio-encased semifreddo ice creams. A long way from her new home in Los Angeles, Harley Viera-Newton looked snug in her leopard coat and was happy to be in London celebrating Thanksgiving with the Brit contingent of her family.

The tone of high fashion (Tim Walker and Tim Blanks were in attendance) and spirits were set by LOVE’s editor in chief Grand, who donned a Marc Jacobs–dotted confection with Prada shoes. Delevingne wore leopard Maddy Thompson and Gallery Department jeans with a Gucci bag.

In the woke, festive spirit, this tree will now be recycled, as the 100 meters of fabric, draped with a gold metallic bow, will today be installed in the upstairs restaurant over the course of the holidays; it will form a glowing beacon suspended above diners before returning to be reconstructed into a new magical creation in Japan.
