Phil Oh Captures the Best Arrival—And Exit!—Moments of the Met Gala

With last night’s Met Gala in New York City officially wrapped, all that’s left from the fashion-packed evening are the remnants of partied-in gowns and—perhaps—foggy, Champagne-fueled memories. But luckily, Vogue’s resident street style photographer, Phil Oh, was on hand to document it, capturing some of the best moments both on and off the red carpet. Call his images the candid, more spontaneous sibling to a traditional step-and-repeat. Catching some of the globe’s most stylish celebrities in their natural habitat—that is, a flashbulb-heavy environment—Oh caught guests on the fly as they disembarked their party buses, took selfies, whispered secrets to each other, and, as was the case for attendees such as Amal Clooney, Blake Lively, and Nicki Minaj, navigated their extra-long gown trains up the Met staircase. At the end of the evening, after stars took in the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” exhibit and witnessed a surprise Madonna performance, Oh also caught them making their grand exits from the event, where the likes of Kim Kardashian West waved to fans and headed into the night, leaving behind a dash of otherworldly glamour that just cannot be re-created in the real world.
