One of my most-loved, most-worn, and most-favorite coats (camel, with an asymmetrical fur collar) is from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Fall 2005 collectsion for Balenciaga, and I have kept it in steady rotation ever since. I wish I had all of them, but especially the white and navy ones—I would wear the hell out of them.

The dévoré velvet dresses from Junya Watanabe’s Fall 2012 collectsion were crazy good. I managed to snag one in dark blue on The Outnet for a really good price and have been trying to get my hands on more of them ever since. I’m still gutted that I missed the red one with puff sleeves on eBay recently—if only I could turn back the hands of time and bid again!

I already have more coats than I need, but this Victoria Beckham topper from Fall 2013 marries my love of traditional Savile Row fabrics with a pop of the unexpected—in this case, electric blue calf hair. It’s also the perfect coat to go from day to night with a quick change underneath.

Even though it wasn’t actually that long ago, I will always be nostalgic for Nicolas Ghesquière’s first collectsion for Louis Vuitton (Fall 2014). Freja walking out in that leather coat with the strong orange collar, knee boots, mini Vuitton box bag . . . I so badly wanted to be that girl. I still sort of do!

I have never met a Céline bag that I didn’t like, but until I win Powerball, I have to pick and choose which of Phoebe Philo’s bags I wind up taking home with me. Back during Resort 2012, Céline delivered the perfect drawstring bucket bag, beating Mansur Gavriel to the punch and providing me with a fashion phantom to chase for the past four years. I’ve looked everywhere, from eBay to consignment shops to the Woodbury Common outlet. Recently, they released an updated Seau bag sans drawstring, and I suppose I could invest in that, but nothing beats the original.

I still hate myself (and my credit card debt) for never buying these Junya boots. I still have moments getting dressed where I know they would solve any outfit dilemma! The jeans wouldn’t hurt either . . .

On a limited budget, life tends to be a series of runway missed connections—though I do have an impressive host of eBay notifications for holy grail pieces. Guillaume Henry’s Carven Fall ’12 Hieronymus Bosch pieces, a Prada patent doctor bag . . . the list goes on. High up on that list, though, is the nude print that Miuccia Prada sent down Miu Miu’s Spring 2010 runway. I was only in my teens at the time, but I’ve always regretted missing out.

This number from Balenciaga Fall 2006 might be the perfect cape, and it escaped me—twice. As no one could wear it better than ALT, obvs, my obsession with the garment quickly transferred to a gorgeous drawing of it by my friend Tanya Ling. Sold before I could buy it, that artwork haunts me like a ghost that appears whenever I look at the wall where it would have hung.

I always wanted this Chloé Fall 2005 dress. Like, the real dress. Believe me, a few years later, I bought a fake one off of eBay and wore it to my junior prom.

I couldn’t possibly afford this beaver fur coat from Narciso Rodriguez’s Fall 2012 show, but I love it just the same. It popped up once on the Barneys Warehouse website for a real steal, only it was one size too large. Even more soul-crushing? Bumping into an acquaintance at the February shows who told me she got hers from The Real Real or Vestiaire Collective, I can’t remember which, for the too-good-to-be-true price of $200. Hearing that made me want one of my own even more. Maybe someday.

Basically every Marc Jacobs collectsion is the one that got away for me, but when forced to choose just one, I’d settle on Fall 2006. Admitting to the number of shopping alerts I have for this collectsion would be embarrassing, so I’ll just hone in on three musts: the velvet leopard-print dresses, the bulbous-heeled shoes, and, most importantly, those mushroom beanies.
