To prepare for the role, Coel turned to the film’s own costume designer Bina Daigeler to grasp how to drape, cut, and sew. She even shadowed Schiaparelli’s Daniel Roseberry at his atelier for inspiration. “There were numerous people behind him working day and night to make things happen,” she recalled. “The amount of people and the attention it takes to make one piece was beautiful to see. There’s pressure that comes with supplying huge, visionary work every season of fashion and it blows my mind! So to see that in action for a moment was amazing.”

Following the screening, a crowd filed into nearby Italian eatery Casino for the after-party; the elegant space’s burnt red banquettes and flooring a fitting match for the film’s vibe. Guests caught up over crispy fried cauliflower and sipped on Mother Mary-themed cocktails. After slipping into a black Coperni frock and Versace shoes, Hathaway and her husband Adam Shulman strolled in and immediately hit the dance floor to the sounds of Moloko’s Sing It Back.

Nearby, Coel chatted with And Just Like That’s Sarita Choudhury, and in a corner banquette, Ayo Edebiri was spotted talking with FKA twigs. The Bear actress, who makes her Broadway debut in the play Proof this week, also made the rounds to congratulate Hathaway. As the buzzing party began winding down, Hathaway returned to the dance floor for one last spin, this time with Coel by her side as the two held hands and happily jumped up and down.
