The 10 Best Dressed Stars at This Year’s Venice Film Festival

This year’s Venice Film Festival in Italy had no shortage of big movie premieres, with buzzy films such as Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling and Andrew Dominik’s Blonde leading the charge. Naturally, then, it had plenty of red carpets and celebrities to walk them while sporting their best evening fashions. While there were plenty of glamorous gowns and spiffy suits to be had, the event’s best dressed attendees were those who took risks and rebuked classic designs in favor of garments that stood out.

Leading our top 10 list? The bold-colored, big-silhouetted gowns that both Tessa Thompson and Jodie-Turner Smith wore—both of whom are styled by the duo Wayman + Micah. In vibrant frocks from labels such as Christopher John Rogers, Balmain, and Schiaparelli, the two stars embraced voluminous shapes that commanded attention. (Thompson’s red Elie Saab number at the Bardot premiere, and Turner-Smith’s denim Balmain gown for Bones and All, being prime examples.) Another actor who also opted for a head-turning gown was Florence Pugh, who chose a tulle Valentino couture dress and feathered heels for her Don’t Worry Darling premiere.

There were sleeker moments that shined. On The Fringe star Penelope Cruz showcased that a black evening gown can still make a big impact—especially when it’s Chanel couture and the skirt is covered in sequins. The Eternal Daughter’s Tilda Swinton chose one of her favorite labels—Haider Ackermann—and shined in a slinky, metallic purple long-sleeve gown.

Venice’s leading men stood out, as well. Take Harry Styles in Gucci at the premiere of Don’t Worry Darling, when he wore a Gucci suit complete with a large, ’70s-style collared shirt (don’t forget the groovy shades).
