The evening’s speeches were ushered in with one final surprise: a troupe of dancers weaving through the room as Swan Lake swelled through the space. The moment gave way to the introduction of the honorees, LoveShackFancy founder Rebecca Hessel Cohen and Melanie Hamrick, who got her start with the YAGP when she was just twelve-years-old.

Cohen, who has long drawn inspiration from ballet’s romanticism, told Vogue, “Since I was a little girl, I’ve loved ballet. I’d go to The Nutcracker with my mom every year. I’ve always been so inspired by dancers. I always say your dress is your best dancing partner,” she laughed, twirling around, two bows affixed to her shoulders floating around her. (Cohen’s guests are easy to spot, and even easier to follow, as they had hardly stopped dancing since the night began.) “Dance is a huge part of every single thing that we do. We’re always dancing,” she agreed.

Soon enough, the masses had joined in—turning all that admiration from earlier into full participation. A sea of ruffles, lamé, and sequins swirled between the tables as guests abandoned their seats for the floor. With the Five Eleven girls on the decks and a steady stream of bubbles flowing, the energy tipped decisively from gala to dance party. By evening’s end, the line between performer and audience had all but dissolved. The spirit of dance, it seemed, had fully taken hold.
