Givenchy: Spring 2007 Ready-to-Wear

[Tim] Riccardo Tisci has been with Givenchy for a year now

and in that time he's taken us on something of a journey.

♪ Ah ♪

[Tim] Today's collectsion, for example,

started with Hubert de Givenchy's concept of Parisian chic

that's rigorous black and white.

Then Ricardo took us into a world of Aboriginal design.

Specifically the Maoris of New Zealand.

'Cause I wanted to do something ethnic.

My ethnic, you know, Komaneka Sanfreda

which is what was mine.

Because I really wanted to do this really Parisian.

In the way you'd be fetish with the feeling of ethnic.

I was a real, I researchin' a lot

but all the image I was findin'

was like called this amazing woman, this amazing man

in front of this big, like, math cut piece of fabric

and getting portrait done with a man jacket,

white shirt and a really like big tattoo on the face.

For me it was so chic, you know, to see somebody elegant

with like a real touch of itnia.

[upbeat music]

♪ The modern life ♪

[Tim] There was a story in that collectsion

of worlds meeting.

You know, different worlds actually colliding in a way.

I really like to create emotion

and to get emotion from things.

So like, you know, my emotion

in this moment of my life was dead.

Something completely eclectic in a way.

This why this something that nobody would never do,

like, you know.

Ethnic, more sophistication, and avant-garde.

There's something very weird going together,

but in the way, like, you know,

I experimented with my language.

You know, my language to represent what I want to do.

[Tim] What I like most is the way he puts very,

very different ideas together.

Like very, very sophisticated Parisian chic

and then Aboriginal. Because he's the

white shirt, the little jacket, and Aboriginal to tell you.

Look, I think, I love that, you know?

He's not frightened now.

It's perfection now.

I think it's very modern but is still very Givenchy.

And he's just, he's so sure, can you imagine?

What was good about that show,

it wasn't corporate trash,

it wasn't perfect or overproduced or slick.

Yeah, it kinda had that student, real, kind,

caring attempts at tryin' to change things

and I loved it for that.

[audience applauding]

[Tim] There's a definite sense

that Riccardo Tisci is part of fashion's new wave.

And he's definitely taking the all gust old house

of Givenchy to places it's never been before.
