Narciso Rodriguez: Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear

You wanna see the difference

that a little investment can make

to a designer's career?

Have a look

at Narciso Rodgriguez's latest collectsion.

He's had an injection of finance

from Liz Claireborne's company.

It's made all the difference

to the way he approached his new work.

I'm looking at all the clothes here,

and there's a really different

spirit this season.

There is!

This season I was afforded

so many more things, and so many more people

to help me make those things.

And it's made a big difference in the work

that I've been able to do.

For Narcisco, we're doing this,

what I'm calling faded or degraded color.

The indigo color, that's around the eyes,

it's a mix of black and it's very deep navy blue,

and its comes from a Japanese indigo

that Narcisco has used in the collectsion.

I've been wearing him for 13 years,

so he's been pretty much been around

in my life for a long time, in a good way.

He's known for a certain look,

a certain sort of cleanness and freshness

in the way he tailors.

I'm always impressed

with Narcisco's clothing and design.

[rock music]

[Tim] I like the things you draw

into your collectsions,

the range of things,

and also, they're quite cerebral things,

but they become central.

There are a great deal

of architectural references.

Especially the work of Santiago Calatrava.

Just like the most graceful, majestic,

streamlined, clean, beautiful way

to construct things in a new way.

One idea that I thought he was playing with,

was that idea of opaqueness and transparency.

And you saw that in the whirls, and the skin

coming through on the cream dress.

I thought those were both really, really amazing.

Could you see the difference

in this collectsion?

I think so, definitely, yeah.

I thought there was a message

in the flowers coming out.

The beaded tie dye flowers on the white dress

was like, more playful.

[rock music]

I always think Narcisco has a understated

kinda coolness that's just so beautiful.

[rock music]

[Tim] This feels a lot more emotional to me,

when I'm looking at these clothes.

It is a very emotional collectsion

because I did it on,

sort of compulsively and spontaneously.

This season I had the luxury of buying

those extra few embroideries.

Those things that can be a little more elaborate.

[Tim] And you're changing too?

You yourself.

[chuckling] Daily.

You know, in the UK, we prefer

a little bit more diaphanous,

bit more ethereal dresses,

and I think we really saw that today,

with all those beautiful embroidery and sequins.

I think that captured the whole mood.

The last dress was absolutely gorgeous.

I really feel that this is a launchpad

for where he can go.
