Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations - The Exotic Body
Released on 05/07/2012
I remember my Aunt Lilly.
She was too wild, too adventurous.
So she went to Egypt and she sent us strange,
beautiful things like patterns, you know?
So I used them in my designs and everybody was shocked!
Today to shock is very difficult
because there's everything everywhere.
Oh impossible!
Everywhere, Miuccia?
The moment of shocking is finished.
No, no, but you have to try!
To get influences from other cultures,
other religions so you can try something new.
No, actually no.
No you can't do that because it was already done.
You Schiaparelli did it.
Yves Saint Laurent did it in the 70's.
And now it's something that is not new anymore.
What's this? No.
You can't take pieces here and there and be modern.
[Elsa] I don't agree
It's not enough
But don't you travel?
I mean, I remember Peru.
Yes but...
Cuba, Russia, Tuisia, Brazil...
Things are so different now.
Everything is so different from that time.
No, that's not right.
And now you work in a world that is completely open.
So many races, so many cultures, so many religions...
When you travel in the East and many other countries
the passion of the people and the level
of vitality it's huge.
And sometimes in the eyes of those women
you see such a will, such a passion.
A will for living that is really surprising.
How I would love to see that...
And to do something that is relevant
for such a wider group of people requires
a different attention.
All my life I've carried this passion
to create a fashion like fireworks.
To express the beauty of every possible person.
Every universe.
Yes, but I am obliged to have my feet attached
to reality and that is very important.
