You know, I think my all-time favorite is Beast or Burden.

Beasts of Burden is your all-time favorite?

No, one of them, one of them.

You're ridiculous.

[laughs]

[rock music]

My love of music began so early

because my grandmother was a concert violinist.

So, my entire family are musicians

and I grew up from day 1 with music.

Anything from Joan Armatrading, to Bread,

to Seals and Crofts, the Stones, the Beatles.

I went to any concert I could possibly go to

and I convinced my parents to let me.

And I remember going to a 'Dead concert

when I was in 9th grade, it was a very big deal.

[rock music]

I'd always loved what he's doing with Surface to Air.

So that's one thing I had noticed and

we were looking for someone to help do anything different.

And I love his energy.

I love the face that he has a pulse on what's going on.

So for me it was a great match.

You know, I was really interested

in playing records backwards to find secret messages.

[laughs]

And so, listening to them backwards

ultimately lead to me listening to them forwards and,

you know, that's how I really discovered music.

And this is why we hired him.

[laughs]

We decide on show music in a collaborative way.

It has to be great to listen to.

It's a presentation for an hour so it has to be very upbeat

but I want it to be very different and cool.

I got so addicted to my iPod I thought, wow,

let's go back to the basics and see what records sound like.

[rock music]

I like Jungle Lion by The Upsetters.

Do you know that one?

I do, actually.

[laughs]

Funny you ask, so how about Janis Jopland?

Janis, she was a drinker, that lady.

[laughs]

Stop it, I love Janis Jopland.

Which is cool, why, I like whiskey.

[rock music]

Hi.

Hi, how are you?

How are you?

Good, you?

Good, wow.

That's great, that New Orleans funk compilation.

That's really good.

Oh, I'd love to see that.

This looks good, too.

There's the new Kanye, which is awesome.

I love Kanye, so let's pull that for sure.

This is like all about the New Order album cover.

Uh, they've got some great Depeche Mode.

Oh, the Ike and Tina Turner story.

You did put that one New Order song on, right?

Yeah, yeah, Age of Consent, that was a jam.

That's a great song.

And Prince, we have to do him, he wears our clothing.

Love Prince.

[rock music]

I dunno, there's so much amazing stuff here.

This is probably my first album I ever owned.

Changes.

I knew every single song.

You're still changing.

And still do.

You wanna sing it?

No, no thank you.

So, Tory, we should get the Kanye, the Tropical--

Definitely the Black Lips.

I like this just inspirationally for the cover.

[laughs]

The cover.

And, uh, Prince.

And Prince, for sure.

All right, we'll go with those.

All set to go?

Yeah.

Thank you.

Okay, bye, nice to see you.

Hey, cheers.

All right, my friends.
