With a flourishing film career both here and in France, the Iranian-born actress (and April Vogue cover star) Golshifteh Farahani, 35, is often on the move. Currently based in Paris, Farahani—who had her stateside breakthrough in 2016’s Paterson, co-starring Adam Driver—tends to favor tailored basics (some, nipped from menswear) and silhouettes with room to get up and go.
To be sure, she is no shrinking violet—at Cannes last year, Farahani reached back to Chanel’s Spring 2016 haute couture collectsion, selecting a beaded floral confection with a plunging neckline—but a palette of buttery neutrals and moody shades of navy and oxblood feels more her speed. At a Cartier dinner party in January, the beauty went Old Hollywood vamp in a strappy Temperley London gown with a strong red lip; at the 2018 César Awards, she opted for a dark, ankle-length Chanel dress and an alluring head of curls; and a year earlier, at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, Farahani took the red carpet in a swoon-worthy peach-tinted look—complete with romantic cape sleeves—courtesy of Chloé.
Off-duty, Farahani’s penchant for looser garments—embroidered caftans, easy shifts—befits her frequent forays into the desert sands, whether for work or play. (Recently, her film schedule has brought her to India, Georgia, and Indonesia.) All that is well enough for the self-described “Persian fire lover,” though: She can more than handle the heat.
