“We’ve just moved, and it has been so fun to make a house [a] home,” Stitch Fix CEO (and Glossier board member) Katrina Lake says. Beyond filling their new San Francisco abode with art, cashmere blankets, vintage rugs, and charming bud vases, Lake and her husband, John Clifford, have also recruited family and friends to help enliven the space. “Our latest kick is a dinner party inspired by a musical artist with a deep catalog of hits for a soundtrack,” she says. “Dinner with . . . Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, Dave Matthews Band—it inevitably becomes part sing-along before the main course.”
Lake’s playful approach to hostessing is echoed in her fun yet functional sense of personal style. For the pedigreed businesswoman, anything “easy and machine-washable” will do on an average weekend with her young sons: Lake loves a boxy striped tee (especially from It brands like La Ligne and Kule); cropped jeans from Frame; or a simple dress from Vince. A solid wool-felt coat, moreover, makes the perfect top layer on a mild winter day. “Being able to enjoy the outdoors easily every day of the year is an amazing gift,” Lake says. “Whether it’s hiking in the Presidio right here in the city, or heading out to wine country, Tahoe, the beach, or just a walk or run through the neighborhood, I love it all.”
She adds, “There’s a sense of optimism and reinvention that is pervasive in the culture and the people here, [and] that environment has made it possible for so many ideas and companies—including Stitch Fix—to be created, believed in, and to thrive.”
