It is a disgrace that the Oscars could not bend the eligibility rules—namely the stipulation that a film must be released before December 2025 to qualify for a 2026 nomination—in order to allow Kylie Jenner a shot at best supporting actress for her turn in Charli XCX’s The Moment.
Jenner’s performance—playing a heightened version of herself who tells a harried Charli she looks “amazing” before hastily clarifying “on the inside”—has been lavishly praised as “good.” I enjoyed watching her three-minute cameo more than the dreary two-and-a-bit hours of, say, Hamnet.
Snubbed though she may have been, Jenner still turned up to the 2026 Oscars as the guest of best actor nominee Timothée Chalamet. And while it remained unclear whether she would once again sneak through the back entrance of the Dolby Theatre—as she has done at pretty much every ceremony since accompanying her “life partner” on the awards circuit—that’s exactly what happened: her Schiaparelli bodycon gown, a lustrous cherry-red version of a look first worn in 2023 (which she discusses in her installment of Life in Looks), was instead debuted on Instagram. The clip alone was perhaps the best PR Chalamet has received since casually referring to ballet and opera as endangered art forms, and subsequently catching hell from members of the so-called intelligentsia who, I suspect, have never actually attended either.
Other than, of course, him actually winning the Oscar—a campaign Jenner has arguably worked on almost as hard as A24 itself. After playing hype woman throughout the promo tour for 2025’s A Complete Unknown, Jenner has doubled down for Marty Supreme. Consider the his-and-hers tangerine Chrome Hearts at the Los Angeles premiere in December 2025, or the copper-sequined Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress she wore at the Palm Springs International Film Festival soon after. Since then, there has been a fall 1996 Gianni Versace Couture gown at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards and a waist-whittling custom Ashi Studio creation for the 2026 Golden Globes.
What’s to say Chalamet won’t return the favor in the future? “I’ve actually gotten a few scripts,” she told Vanity Fair this week. “Maybe next time I talk to you, I’ll be the lead of an action movie!”
