Moms of Hollywood (Chrissy Teigen, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow) Came Out to Support Children in Need at the Baby2Baby Gala

The Baby2Baby Gala always attracts a starry crowd, and this year’s event, which took place in Los Angeles over the weekend, was no different. “This year has been really special for Baby2Baby,” said copresident Norah Weinstein as she watched guests including Katy Perry, Mindy Kaling, Kate Hudson, and Amber Valetta file down the red carpet at the nonprofit’s eighth annual gala. “We worked with Governor Newsom to repeal sales tax on diapers in the state of California, partnered with the L.A. Clippers to give out 1 million backpacks to children in the L.A. school district, and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry selected us as the organization to receive gifts in lieu of gifts to Archie.”

The charity, which works year-round to provide basic needs to babies, children, and families, was honoring Chrissy Teigen with the Giving Tree Award presented by Paul Mitchell for her dedication to children living in poverty. The program kicked off with cocktails from the Spare Room before moving into the dining room designed by event producer Yifat Oren of Oren Co. There, attendees were treated to a smorgasbord of treats from L.A.’s buzziest restaurants like Majordomo, Trois Mec, Felix, Night and Market, Gjusta, and Kismet (although this being L.A., the longest line was, unsurprisingly, for Sugarfish hand rolls).

“When I started dating John, I would go to these galas and I wasn’t really sure what the point of them was,” said Teigen as she took her seat and tucked into a Shake Shack burger. “Everyone was all dressed up, drinking wine and coming to party, but this event raises millions of dollars for families who really need it. I’ve been to their headquarters and seen what they accomplish firsthand. It’s really beautiful.”

Presenters for the night included Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Richie, and Ali Wong, who led the fundraising portion of the evening during which almost $5 million was raised. John Legend then took to the stage to present the award to his wife saying, “I love my wife and I’ve made no secret of this. I’ve written songs about her and because she’s so awesome a new genre of writing has become a specialty for me: the Chrissy is being honored at a huge event speech.” After accepting her award, Teigen joined Jennifer Garner, L.A. mayor Eric Garcetti, Kelly Rowland, and Kirsten Dunst on the dance floor for a performance by the city’s most famous cheerleader, Paula Abdul.

The night wrapped up with an after-party DJ’d by Samantha Ronson with vegan milkshakes from Craig’s and a Jon and Vinny’s pizza truck, from which many guests took slices to go. “The other 364 days at Baby2Baby are not as glamorous,” said fellow president Kelly Sawyer Patricof as she surveyed the scene. “But this is the night that all our incredible supporters can come out and celebrate.” And celebrate they did.
