Moments before the American Museum of Natural History gala was set to begin, SNL’s Colin Jost huddled with Scarlett Johansson, going over notes for his monologue, which would zing everyone from Donald Trump to Bill de Blasio to, yes, the museum’s famous whale. Johansson was the night’s best dressed in a red vintage Yves Saint Laurent gown, a stunning sartorial choice for her first public appearance as a couple with Jost. But points for creativity must go to famed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who stood out among the sea of black tuxes in a distinct Starry Night–print vest. When asked by Vogue for more details about the cosmic choice, an animated DeGrasse Tyson noted, “I normally don’t get this question!”
