Emma Stone, Shonda Rhimes, Billie Jean King, and More at Battle of the Sexes’ New York Premiere
With language of empowerment and equality flourishing before, during, and after its New York City debut, Fox Searchlight’s Battle of the Sexes premiered last night at the SVA Theatre, attended by cast and crew. The film deftly explores one pinnacle period in the career and personal life of tennis pro Billie Jean King, played by Emma Stone. From her role in the creation of the Women’s Tennis Association to her historic match with self-titled chauvinist Bobby Riggs (played by Steve Carell), King—the character—makes for a timely, relevant heroine. Amidst the story’s commentary on gender inequality, the narrative also addresses King’s acceptance of her sexuality.
