Happy Hulaween! Inside Bette Midler’s Annual Costume Gala in New York

No one does Halloween quite like Bette Midler, and every year, she outdoes herself when she hosts Hulaween—the annual star-studded costume ball benefitting the New York Restoration Project. Held last night at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine on the Upper West Side, the evening was themed “The Garden of Earthly Delights.” Midler was one of many who blossomed on the red carpet in fantastical flora-inspired attire. “Well, I came as a garden,” Midler told Vogue, in a 17th-century-inspired gown covered in intricate petal embroidery and butterfly details. “It’s funny because two of my friends who didn’t know what I was coming as and who are seated at my table came as the same garden!”
