“I’m a total grouch when I’m cold, so for me a coat that’s thoroughly Jack Frost–proof is essential. My newest deep-winter obsession is the shearling coat; I find that it’s substantially warmer than any of the parka jackets in my closet and a lot chicer, too. I have one from Coach that I’ve been wearing constantly on the coldest days. It has a hood, which is amazing, because with a crazy head of curly hair like mine, beanies are out of the question. After the snowstorm that hit Fashion Week last year, I’ve been careful to up my winter boot game this season. I’m definitely feeling for a luxe hiking boot right now and have a pair by Tory Burch that are basically invincible.”

“After an embarrassing (and painful!) fall in clogs on the Second Avenue F train platform a few weeks ago, I’ve resolved to wear only sensible shoes during New York Fashion Week. Do these Maison Margiela booties count? Maybe yes, maybe no, but I can’t stop thinking about them.”

“When the weather gets ugly during Fashion Week, I pretty much live in my EnVie heARTwork parka
—which, considering it’s made from a recycled army tent, isn’t actually as crazy as it sounds. It’s lined with (responsibly sourced!) mink, it’s essentially inclement-weather-proof, and it has a generous hood and giant pockets for my giant iPhone and giant show invitations. It gets me through everything.”EnVie heArtwork M78 mink parka, price upon request, Buy it now

“It’s the middle of winter, but that doesn’t mean style has to suffer for warmth. On a recent trip to Paris, I’ve discovered my new wardrobe staple: Alaïa’s wool leggings. Not only do they elongate, but they also keep a streamlined silhouette ideal for pairing with a tailored shirt or oversize sweater. And they perfectly tuck into my other Fashion Week must-haves: Yeezy 950 duck boots in Peyote and Saint Laurent Chelsea boots.”

“Leather pants have always been a go-to for me when it comes to cold weather. One trick I have learned: Try a pair of Wolford tights underneath for an extra layer. Well worth it. When choosing a coat, the perk of a heavy fur is you can wear a chunky knit or chic blouse underneath and always stay warm. As far as shoes go, I stay practical with a flat boot meant for lots of walking. Never forget jewels! A redone take on a classic hoop from Charlotte Chesnais naturally ties it all together. Top it all off with an Inverni hat!”

“First to go numb are my fingers and toes, so for me, it’s hand and feet warmers all the way. They’re a quick and easy (not to mention cheap!) toasty trick for looking like I’m keeping my cool in the freezing cold. Oh, and compression socks to keep my blood pumping!”

“Vetements sweatshirts (or the originals that they duped!) layered over thin cashmere sweaters (take off the hoodie for night) and lots of Heattech leggings that just fit under not-too-loose Brock Collection jeans or Levi’s. A super-big bomber (duh) or fur (Theory, please bring back your perfect Seymour jacket) on top of it all, and throw in a belt to jazz things up when the first layer comes off. Glamorous, no. But it’s a practical approach and, at least this season, feels very appropriate.”

“While not exactly a secret, when the straits are seriously dire, Uniqlo Heattech layering doesn’t mess around. I’m particularly in love with their leggings. Though they might add some bulk to the sleekest of skinny jeans, consider it your license to dabble in an oversize pant—my baggy Chimalas, whiskey-colored corduroy flares, and my widest-leg Acne pair (known by some around the office as my raver pant) will be getting plenty of love.”

“I really don’t do well in the cold. New York Fashion Week in February always freaks me out a little because you can’t really plan an outfit for the entire week. It could easily snow one day and rain the next. I gave away all of my Canada Goose and North Face coats, so I couldn’t reach for them even in the worst scenarios. Instead, I stocked up on two amazing vintage fur coats at A Current Affair last fall, which I’m really excited to sport during Fashion Week. I’ve never been a coat girl, so this is kind of a big deal for me. I also wear thick socks and knee-high boots underneath my flared jeans to keep the wind out—no one knows I have an extra layer around my shin, and I’m actually warm! But I do think I need to invest in a pair of winter boots that aren’t Sorels but also aren’t Saint Laurent—something weather-proof that still look cool.”

“I find that the constant running around during New York Fashion Week can be enough to keep me warm—especially because show venues can be so hot due to the large numbers of people inside and the runway lighting. With that in mind, I like to plan outfits that can work for times when I’m sweltering and when I’m shivering. My current mix is a thin turtleneck with cropped trousers underneath an oversize coat. For really blistery days, I’ll add cute socks and a cashmere beanie that I can toss into my bag when I enter the shows.”

“I find that wearing a fitted turtleneck under everything really makes a difference in keeping me warm—it blocks even the slightest gust of cold air from making contact with your skin! I have a few from J.Crew that are tissue-thin and slinky enough to wear under a slip dress, but I also wear them tucked into high-rise jeans with chunky sweaters on top. Weather-proof boots are nonnegotiable: I have an amazing pair of Rockies from Woolrich that are super warm, have serious traction, and look great with jeans or leather pants.”
